Last week Matt attended Inside the Designer's Studio: Chip Kidd at the ICA Boston. The question and answer session covered the designer's early life and studies at Penn State as well as his later career in the publishing industry. Some few insights gained:

• the use of alternative materials should not be gratuitous, they should be used for a reason
• we need to read Murakami's 1Q84 and buy the hard copy to experience the cover design
• he LOVES batman and the people of Comic-Con
• there are some similarities between what we do as designers and the set up of the Milgram experiment
